We have replaced one of our 4 SCO servers with FreeBSD at this point. That
machine is running the FreeBSD version of Filepro, not SCO version under
emulation, as I couldn't get that to work. Everything is running fine. We
have had a few issues that required code modification. Our vendor had
written into our apps checks to see if we were running on unix or windows to
determine how to run certain external commands. Moving to FreeBSD broke
this check, as @OS returnes "FREEBSD" rather than "UNIX", as under SCO.
Also, anywhere that we used a system command to run another FP program from
within an FP program, we had to change the command to utilize SUDO, because
the second command was running with UID & EUID filepro (where as I believe
under SCO it runs with UID filepro and EUID user, although I may be
backwards on that). Also, as Walter pointed out, the printing commands are
a little different, so changes have to be made accordingly. All in all
those modifications were not a big deal, and the system has been running
fine for about 8 months now.
