Both of which are still around, and a host of others have joined them in
the marketplace (Grisoft, F-Secure, et al).  Much to my dismay, M$ will
probably eat them all.  Not dismay because I like a single one of them--I
hate Symantec, and NAI went -way- downhill.  No, it's because it's yet one
more monopoly they'll get away with.

Yeah, but that's SO unethical.  That's like building in bugs so you can
charge for upgrades to your software.  It's just not on, no matter how one
slices or spins it.

What, set a crook to catch a crook?  The idea of M$ doing an anti-virus
package is (forgive the indelicacy, but its the best example I can think
of at the moment) pretty much like turning Homeland Security over to the
terrorists that know where our weak spots are, and asking them to fix them
for us.  Does the word "unconscionable" come to mind?  Does here.
