I have completely avoided this thread... it just seemed to be going on
pretty well between you and Ken... or others... I ignored. Today I caught
one question from either you or Brian (it was apparently from Brian, but
looked to be from you.. the whole message was unquoted...) Anyway, no
matter. It mentioned Ken saying that using PUTENV and filePro variables
would not affect the current running process...
Okay, first off... PUTENV works entirely... correctly, and completely. At
least it has for me for many years... I rely on it heavily, daily in almost
everything I write. I think you should have no qualms about using it and
GETENV. What Ken was probably talking about (and I can only guess because I
didn't see his words...) was that you can not use PUTENV with the filePro
PATH variables, i.e., PFDIR, PFDATA and PFPROG... to change the environment
of the "current" process. Doesn't that sound reasonable. As for all other
variables (maybe excepting PFDSK??) I don't see any problem.
Of course, this is just a guess about what you are asking about.
