Sure, I'm happy to drop it as well... however, may I point out that in your
penultimate message, you were _still_ telling me that I could use the -xa
procedure to do what I was doing... CLEARLY showing that you did NOT
understand anything I had been saying in ALL the previous messages. It is
only _that_ specific statement of yors which I was responding to, and I am
glad I did, because now I think you finally got it... I *am* running the
report on the first newly gottne record in the file I'm standing in. I'm a
little miffed that you did completely misunderstand this the first few times
you responded and then immediately upon seeing what I meant all along you
want to drop the thread with no other suggestions. That's fine, though...
although your comment of "Why not just use -xa... it's a simple matter...
and etc..." did clue me in to the fact that you hadn't gotten the situation
and drove me to answer you yet again. And incidentally, just to keep the
record very straight... in the very last sentence of this message you say...

> Look, your approach is valid and I can see how it
> could work. I was simply proposing an alternate
> solution that I have used SUCCESSFULLY the past.

You most certainly were NOT proposing an alternate solution to what I was
doing... you state it precisely (finally) here. You are and always have been
proposing something completely different, something we all do all the time
without trouble, using -xa and running a report against an 'other' file's
records, something not even close to what I was showing... and now, you say
you've been understanding all along... Well, perhaps, just this message, you
do get it... and yet you still say your solution is an alternate one...
pretty strange, and well, wrong. You are still talking about using -xa and
running the report on other files, I am not and never have been. Your
solution is in no way alternate... it is for a different situation. No
matter. If you _do_ ever come up with a different solution that actually
addresses the problem I was explaining all along... please post it. As for
this thread, you are right... whew! it was very tiresome. I'm glad to drop
it as well.

And just so we are clear... if a patient comes to a doctor saying, "Doc, it
hurts when I do this..." and the doctor says as a remedy, "Don't do that."
It is no remedy.

John
