Please be advise that following comments are
merely speculative as I let my imagination go
trying to find more positive or passive point
of view on Bulldog ODBC.
First, I think this is a great tool. It is a
great start, specially, since we have nothing
better if anything at all (parallel to $$$).
I can envision the Access savvy users for whom
you can write a few VB or even Access routines
to automatically (unless it only works manually)
create all tables once a day. These users now
have all of their data in their environment and
can run all sorts of reports, query and whatever
else they can dream of. Even pass data right on
to a more robust data base.
Assuming that you can you do all of this automatically,
and 10,000+ records are transferred per second,
you can run routines to create tables and return a query
result fairly fast. Heck, if one gets creative, you
can dynamically create tables and give them unique
names even if the filePro source is the same.
I like it! It looks easy enough and I would rather
pay the $395 (I think that is what I saw) instead of
buying fpSQL. While I understand Jay concerns with
the Server/Client side issues, and his point is well
taken, I also appreciate Ryan great effort to bring
to our community a starting point and, hopefully, the
beginning of a suite of products.
Imagine this:
If you use Crystal Reports,
1. You can run routines to create the tables
2. You can produce your reports the way your
accountants and your managers have been asking
for years.
Of course, I know that we have been producing reports
just the way we want them ... but I hope you understand
what I am referring to here.
Ryan,
I think that if my views are possibilities, you should
take the time to create a couple of samples and have
potential buyers review these samples with your demo.
If you pull that off, which would be a little time
investment from your part, it will answer a lot of the
questions most may be asking themselves but dare not
post to the list.
Great product! Great start! Way to go ...
Good luck!!!
