Printing From XP

Sorry for the shouting. It is obvious I am not culturally adept here.
I have been running filepro 5.0.0 on Windows98 SE at home, which I
transfer to a zip 750 disk and take to work.
At work I have attached the disk to Windows NT where I never figured out
how to get filepro to print directly, but as I was only working with names
and information relative to prospective customers was fine.
I recently up graded to a Dell Inspiron 1150 at home with Windows NP.
At home I use filepro to print my checks. Consequently I am trying to
print directly to the printer, which I was able to do at home with Windows 98.
My connection to the old HP 4L parallel printer is via a USB converter.
To check the printer connection I have used Wordpad to print a
test statement successfully.
The process identified my printer as "HP LaserJet 4L". Jt also noted that
"where" WAS "USB001". In case that helps!
In response to the initial suggestion of RWS that the proper syntax is:
WIN:\computer_name\printer_name
I have gone to printer maintenance and not sure of my computer_name or
printer_name have tried:
WIN:\\dellInspiron\HP LaserJet 4L and other variations on the same theme.
As a quick test I exit the printers definitions and press H
"hardcopy" at printer type (item 7 FP menu) to see if it prints this to the
printer or to a file. Interestingly enough despite variations in printer
definitions the data printed comes out each time in a file named "PR_LPT1"
to be more specific:
Type Destination File
HP-4L WIN:LPT1
HP-4L WIN:\\DELLINSPIRON\HP Laser Jet 4L
when Hardcopy is pressed with with either designated as the default printer
-- the output is to a file name "PR_LPT1"
In response to the inquiry as to the extraneous data printed when I attempt
to print checks to a file please see the attached file. It appears there
are a lot of print codes, which should be hidden. I changed the account
numbers which should print to xxxx.
I appreciate your time and assistance!
Finally as is obvious from this I really am not sure what my computer_name
is or my precise printer_name.
Any suggestions?
