I have Half Life 2 Silver, which came with a slew of things, including
CounterStrike: Source. And yes, it's cool. Beat HL2, and I play CS to
blow off steam now and then. I can be found on the Newbie Refuge 24/7 Office
server when I do play, generally. That's been less frequent the last few
months, as my game time has been slurped by Doom 3 and EverQuest (and now
EVE). I'm anxiously awaiting the expansion to HL2, btw...as well as the
sequel that everyone believes will eventually appear.
EverQuest is an entirely different genre. HL2/CS is a first person
shooter. EQ is an MMORPG that, while it can be played (and usually is by
most) in first-person view, is most definitely -not- an FPS. It's hard to
define the genre without being recursive, honestly. They -all- go back
pretty much to AD&D concepts. EQ is just a very nice one (and HUGE!),
modelled after Diku class MUD's (or very close to a Diku), with a slick GUI
on the front end. It looks good, but in the end, it comes down to a lot of
mathematically based decisions--electronic dice, and RAM for paper. :)
