Windows XP and FilePro configuration

It has been a while since I posted to the list. I hope everyone is well.

I have two problems and I am requesting help under the threat of bodily injury from some save a tree group. They found out I have printed reams of reading material trying to fix them on my own.

Both problems stem from my purchase of a HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows XP Professional OS and a Linksys wireless router. The other four computers in my office are desktops with Windows 98 Second Addition OS and 10/100 hardwired to the Linksys. The Linksys wireless replaced an older Linksys. I am not a fan of XP but I have to move forward.

The Linksys is working as expected an all computers. FilePro is working fine on the desktops. The laptop has access to the server because I can see drive “G”, the network drive, P.Exe, the FP folder and the Deputy folder that contains FilePro folders.

I have used the set command as follows

Set pf dsk=g

Set pfmenu=fp\menus

Set pfdata=deputy

Path=g:;g:fp;g:deputy (no help here that I can see )

Cd\ (change directory)

G: (change drive)

p.exe (or I can put any of my menu names “p main” )

When I open FilePro using run, command.com and then the set command or use a batch command to open it the same thing happens. The menu comes up and I can see all my FP files but when I try to open them they wont. There is no error message they just don’t open.

I can create a new database inside the “Deputy Folder” from the laptop and see it but it will not open. I can go to a desktop and see the new file and open it to add records.

If I try to use “define files” using the laptop I get a FilePro error.

A FilePro Error Has Occurred

Cannot open file:

On File: FilePro\Ashland\map

 No or Invalid Map

I think XP is somehow misdirecting FilePro, the error should read “On File: Deputy\FilePro\Ashland\map” I think
 If there were no map.

Has anyone had this problem with XP or have a solution?

I can wait on the XP window size problem for another time but I just can't get it to enlarge.

Thanks

Rich Tartaglia
