Found out that the new storage server I was rsyncing -to- ran out of disk
space--entirely.  That would cause exactly that error, based on what I saw
from a search of google.

Serves me right for jumping to conclusions about locking, etc.  Now I feel
just plain silly.

Neeeeeeevermind.  :)  Thanks anyway, folks.  Sorry to clutter the place.

Now I have to demand more disk.  :)
