Subject: Problems Installing Windows 5.0.4
I am retiring two portable computers that have served as my WINDOWS systems for
much longer than I would have ever guessed. But, it is time.
I am replacing it with an HP model zd7000 which has WINDOWS XP Professional
operating system.
I am having erratic results and no success in trying to install my filePro for
WINDOWS 5.0.4. I made 5 attempts and finally decided to seek help. HELP!!
Erratic in that some of the installs failed to include a file called errmsg in
the /fp/lib directory. From this install situation when I tried to run any of
the filePro operations I got the error message: A filePro Error Has Occurred
-- On File: C:/fp/lib/IBMPRO.prt -- PRMESSG : Cannot Open C: /fp/lib/errmsg
-- errno is 0 -- filePro Error Number: 76
When the install did include the above file (errmsg) I got the following error
message(s):
1. For the CREATION OPERATIONS the error was: A filePro Error Has Occurred --
On file: C:\fp\lib\IBMPRO.prt -- lm error: LICENSE EXPIRED.
2. For the RUNTIME OPERATIONS the error was as above in some instances and the
following in others: A filePro Error Has Occurred -- this version is
licensed for %d users -- On File: C:/fp/lib/IBMPRO.prt .
For whatever IBMPRO.prt has to do with it this file has always been there.
The copy is a single user version and I am the only person using the program.
For the record I have created another user name on the computer but its me too.
Can anybody help me get past these problems?
Thanks in advance!!

May I be so bold as to suggest that you upgrade to fp 5.0.13. It doesn't cost
you anything and it will probably solve your install problems.
One warning though, 5.0.13 uses fp tech's new licensing scheme. This will
require you to download a license from there web site. It is tied to the serial
# of your hard drive.
Have you tried networking these two computers and just do a transfer of fp from
one machine to the other?
If the the size permits, why not zip the files and then either copy them to a
zip drive or burn them to a cd and then recopy to your new machine.
You could always laplink the computers and do the transfer.
I had your first error message when installing early versions of fp but never
the second error or runtime problems.
