I was afraid that was what you were doing.

No, it won't work.

The keys in question are sending more than that.

And this is work you should really almost never have to do yourself...
and it's sufficiently intricate that it's difficult to explain.

Which terminal/emulator (in *detail*; 'xterm' isn't good enough) are
you trying to use?  Likely someone has a good working termcap they can
post for you.
