Roger, I have not tried using xfer on XP via serial ports - in fact, i
don't think i've used xfer in serial mode in quite a while - do you have
any network connection between the two?  if not, maybe some common media?
if you have, xfer has a file mode ("-lf" flag) that will save the xfer 
session to a filename, and you can just copy the file from one machine to 
the other, then use same file mode on the receiving end to get it - if the
file is large, it is MUCH faster to do it this way.
