Rod,
Don't know if this would work for you but it did for me in a similar
situation and need that I had. It is likely far less elegant than anything
most of the others on the list would suggest, but anyhow... maybe if it has
value others can 'elegate' it.
I used a CALL table on which I had placed the different messages that I
wanted to appear. The table was CALLED at the time within other processing
when such messages would be appropriate.
