Bob,
Your suggestions had us looking for service pack installations. We
found that one is available for the client.
A service pack 4.9 for the client is currently being installed on all XP
boxes.
It looks to improve the network performance.
After the error occurred, a quick look with the browser indicated that
the drive was still mounted and browsable.
One such error locked an entire file for the time it took to resolve to
the error message. (About 4 minutes)
We are hopeful the service pack is the solution so we will be waiting to
see if there is any difference before changing anything else.
I will have version numbers and such if the service pack does not solve
the problem.
