I've never had that.  Are you sure it's not  you editor.
"line too long" sounds suspiciously like an old vi error message.

I used to hate that - I just tested my vi [nvi] and I gave up
after I got one line that was 76512 characters long.

less things there are 75 lines in the file but all I have to do is
page down and press 'v' and I get and error about can't find that
line as there is only one line.

Test your editor for line length.
