Cecilia,
Version 4.8 had some issues that did not work correctly. Keeping the
filepro version up-to-date will give your company new features and keep
the versions consistent with the hardware technology.
I have many customers with all kinds of filepro installations, Native32,
Unix, and Linux. I have had no problems when upgrading from 4.8 to 5.0
with any of the systems. I have purchased at least 130 filepro runtimes
and development systems for installation on 5.0 systems. I would say of
those, at least 90 would be upgrades.
I do add, however that I discontinued support to Windows 95 systems.
The memory limits were inadequate for the new versions and my
developments.
I realize that many people experienced difficulty when upgrading from
4.1 to 4.8 and are reluctant to upgrade, but I think that issue will not
affect this upgrade and you will find it will go very easily.
As is the nature of this industry, if filePro made a product that would
work forever, they would not continue to get revenue from existing
customers. Since the working live of a software package is less than 3
years, filepro must continue to develop products, features and
capabilities and as users it is important that we continue to invest in
those products. It is good for fpTech and it is good for your company
since you have based your business on developing with the filePro
engine.
As Red Green would say: "We are all in this together"
