Hello filePro-listers,

Does anyone have a machine manufactured say between 2006 and 2010 that can
(or *has*) run SCO 5.07?

I'm getting Thermal Event Shutdowns on a machine that I need to replace in a
hurry. The only requirements really are that it have at least one old
legacy PCI slot on the motherboard, virtually any amount of memory, 1Gb
would be nice. Obviously, it needs to power up correctly, and the CPU and
fan must work (reasonably) well. It would be good to find a machine with a
Core 2 Duo chip in it, or newer. I can put a newer power supply in it if
needed, as well as new case fans. (Any motherboard will run the working SCO
drive that I have, so please tell me about *anything* that you think might
fit this bill.

It can be near to either coast. I'm in Arizona, but it could also be sent
to New Jersey.

Feel free to call me if you have anything that might work. Happily, SCO
5.07 does not care about the motherboard, CPU and chipset before 2010 or so,
the memory, is also not required to be anything special. etc. I will just
have to reset the location pointers in the kernel to the old supported
ethernet card (which is why I need the legacy PCI slot).

Thanks,
/jje

P.S. Of course, I could replace the CPU and cooler, but if I'm remembering
correctly, this is one of those very strange machines with a CPU that was
mounted on a little circuit board, with a heat-sink/fan also on the board,
and the board plugged in *vertically to the motherboard. They are far and
few between I think. Plus I won't be able to get any readings of its
specific replacement part number(s) for a few days, and so I'm trying to cut
down the time this machine is in this crazy, delicate condition.

Almost every other time (very randomly) it has a thermal shutdown event
(which it announces at the hardware post) the thing requires a full fsck of
the primary disk... which takes a good 45 minutes. It is in a very
dangerous state, and will eventually lose a big chunk of important data. It
is wearing me down. So, I think I will take just about any solution at this
point. Happily, the primary (and only) drive is brand new and functioning
fine at this poinds
, but I need to act quickly to get things stable again.

I don't need anything else, no DVD drive, no cards, no ethernet on the
motherboard, etc.

It would be great if it had an old style CentroniX parallel port, but not a
requirement.

It just has to be available immediately, if not sooner. We can negotiate
the price. I will send a UPS or Fedex pickup for it, so it would need to be
packed into a decent box.
