pre expand a Qualified file?

Is there a way to have dexpand take a qualifier so that I can pre expand a qualifier?

I have tried dexpand -md already
As -md works with *clerk  *clerk -md brings up the option to select a qualifier.  This is supposed to work with dexpand, according to the on-line manual, also but is not.

What am I doing wrong?
