What I'm asking is advice/guidance on the best way to proceed with ramping
up on FilePro so I can at least try to diagnose issues if they were
reported. George and I had talked about me helping him and he was going to
provide guidance but sadly that never happened before his passing. A
complicating factor is George was on FilePro 5.0 and I guess there are
potential conflicts if I use the 6.0 version that I will have to watch out
for.

This list is probably your most valuable ally. I'm sure we would all
be willing to help out if you run into a filePro problem you can't figure
out. If it turns into a big problem, several of us are independent
programmers who can be hired to help you fix it.
I also do filePro training classes. I'm doing most of the training
virtually now, so can include you in one of my sessions.
Or, if you let me know where you live, I can probably get you in on one
of my on-site training classes. (The classes are usually at one individual
company, but some of them have allowed me to invite "strangers" in.
Depending on the Covid situation, I may be doing training in Phoenix, AZ and
Courtland, NY this year.)
You might want to try to buy a copy of Stuart Werner's filePro
Developers Reference. (I just tried to bring up the STN.com web site, but
was unable to. I hope STN is not out of business...)
George's library may already have a copy of the reference, even if it
is an older edition. (The last edition only covered version 5 of filePro.)
I've acquired a couple of the older filePro printed manuals. They only
cover filePro through version 4.1, but I still find the programming info and
examples invaluable. Again, George's library may have a copy.
I might be persuaded to send you one of my copies of the filePro manual
if you can't find one elsewhere.
You might want to look for issues of the old newsletters that John Esak
put out. I have some of these newsletters, but I am in the process of
moving and they are packed in boxes in my storage unit right now.
I sure wish I could get a complete set of the old Esak newsletters. I
would love to have a complete set. If anybody has a set and if John Esak
would give permission to scan them in, I would pay the neighbor kid to scan
them in and create PDF's for me...
You can also contact Laura Brody to see if she still has the old
"filePro Goddess" journals. There were only a few of those, but they had a
lot of good filePro tips and tricks in them.
Hope that helps!
