end-of-field marker

From memory, the PFEOF environment variabl, and it's either a decimal or
octal character value.  Can't remember which base it's in.

I may very well be wrong about this, as it's not found in Stocker's
man page.  I do, however, remember it, and associate it mentally as a
Windows-only feature.  You change the *nix versions via termcap.
