We're on a heavily wooded island with above ground power lines.
At this time of year we get frequent storms with high winds. The
wierd thing is that it wasn't stormy when the power went out last
night.

We had a very short outage a few days ago that lasted less than a
minute, and the generator had turned on, the off quickly. It
looks like it didn't turn on then, and I didn't realize it was a
problem until the power went down last night. I went downstairs
long enough to shut down all my computers, and didn't try
manually starting the generator until I got up this morning. I
had to reset something to get it to start, but it didn't trigger
the switch in the transfer box so I had to do that manually.

We had a service call from Puget Sound Energy (PSE) early this
afternoon when they couldn't do anything other than tell me that
it was probably caused by the people installing the generator not
clearing exceptions that were the result of installation testing.
There wasn't anything they could do until we have mains working
which PSE predicts will by 6pm tomorrow.

doesn't know much. -- Will Rogers
