HP Overlays

Hi Ken,

I'm pretty good with PCL-5, but I'd recommend a very different approach.
Jim's approach was to build PCL forms, load them as macros into a
PCL-5 compatible printer, and trigger those macros while printing the
report text (which was also likely PCL-5). At least that's how I
understand it.

Consider a different approach, using Print Wizard (our product). Your
report output can remain the same, in PCL-5 (or some other options). But
the form does not have to be in PCL-5. It can be a PDF form, straight from
a government agency. Or it can be designed in Word, Excel, MS Publisher,
or similar, saved as EMF or PDF. It can even be a scan of a paper form.

Print Wizard can combine the form and the report at print time, and output
to ANY Windows-supported printer, or even to PDF. You can preview the
output on the screen, adjust the placement of the form, adjust the
placement of the report on the form, test print a page, print the final
report, and save all the adjustments into a profile to use the next time
you print that form.

Print Wizard can email the report-over-form, or even (shudder) fax it.

You can print 5-part invoices on 5 different colors of paper with 5
variations of the form, collated or uncollated. Stapled.

All this is available in either our Print Wizard products or the Print
Wizard engine in AnzioWin terminal emulation.

I mean no disrespect to Jim Asman. I certainly learned some things from
him, and his techniques were appropriate for the times and the available
hardware. But PCL-5 printers are getting hard to find.

Ken, I'd love to come visit and demonstrate, but I don't think we Yankees
are allowed down under right now. But I'd be happy to do a remote
setup on your machine and demonstrate.

Stay well.
