I CAN'T AGREE WIOTH YOUR MORE.
My client base has modified my applications to meet their requirements. My 2 largest clients don't fit into any stock program. One is a distributer and the other markets and supports concierge doctor's. Neither one of these can fit into a canned package as their business model are different then what a "Stock" program does.
As for accounting, 1 of these 2 has accounting that is similar to an insurance company and other gets paid in 10 days of the invoice date. I am not privy to what form accounting is being used. I do know that they changed accountants 3 years ago.
Each of my Textile Brokerage clients have a different way of handling their business. The only "Stock" form was the sales contract as they all used the same pre-printed form. I eventually had to modify the look of the contract as the mills complained that they all looked alike. This was easy to do. Some reporting was typicasl to any business but I still had to develop reports that were specific to the clients business. Eventually these reports were added to the next version of the program.
I did a custom cash receipts program for 2 clients in different business but both had the same problem, checks received where they had to guess what items were being paid. In fact I had toi add the option to apply a payment against a contract that has the commission paid in full. As they received another payment for that item. Apparently the vendor's bookkeeping system was lacking in that it issued checks for items they had paid in full.
