FW: OT Message Center Major Change Update Notification

People complain about EOF of programs and support for them. FP Tech’s policy is inline with all major software companies.

We as developers should keep in mind that although our programs are backward compatible, in most cases, we should not have to support them indefinitely. I have clients running on filePro 4.1, 4.5, 45.8.5.0 and 5.8. If they have an issue, I charge them. IO can get support on 5.8 but nothing earlier.

The major problem my client’s have is when they need a new printer or move to as new computer. Most of them are just hanging on (Pre-pandemic) and don’t have the finances to upgrade (even though the newer version has features that they can use). They just don’t want to spend any money.

As below even MS has an EOL for fairly new software. FP Tech will need to do them same thing in the future as the backward compatibility will become a big issue. Features will need to be added to the 64 bit version that are not available in a 32 bit version. And yes, one can’t run both versions on the same network as it causes issues with lockfile and the freechain. I ran into this issue at two clients where they had both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows. One client installed all 64 bit Windows 10 and the other slowly installed windows 10 or 64 bit Windows 7. In both cases they stayed with the 64 bit version of filePro.

Legacy OME support in Outlook for iOS slated for retirement
MC220872

Major update: Announcement started
Applied To: All

Outlook for iOS version 4.53.0 and above will no longer support legacy Office Message Encryption (OME) as part of our ongoing retirement of legacy OME environments.

  * NOTE: This change affects only organizations that use legacy OME capabilities in Office 365.
  * If you are unsure of whether your organization uses legacy or new OME capabilities, please review Legacy information for Office 365 Message Encryption<https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/compliance/legacy-information-for-message-encryption>.

When this will happen
This change will be effective on September 23, 2020.

[How will this affect your organization]

This change affects all recipients of legacy OME messages, both within and outside of Office 365.

  * Today, when a user opens an encrypted email sent or received using legacy OME, they will find an attachment. Opening this attachment sends the user to a login page within the attachment previewer, where they can view the protected email.
  * Once support is removed, users will no longer be sent to a login page nor will they be able to access the login page manually.
  * Once support is removed, users will see a message asking them to open the email on their desktop client when they open the attachment.

[What do you need to do to prepare]

Microsoft recommends customers migrate the new OME experience.

Note that migrating to the new OME experience also requires your organization to being using Azure Information Protection if you are not already doing so.
