filePro Conference set for Oct 11 > 14, 2019 -- Your invited! Come and see new features and filePro WEB

Well let's look at the costs involved, shall we?

fP Tech said the conference is 3-4 days. They specified:

* $260/person conference fee.
* $109 + tax per night for hotel room.
* 75 rooms reserved.

Let's check the math:

75 * 260 = 19500 <-- Conference Fees
75 * 109 * 4 = 32700 <-- Hotel Fees, no taxes
75 * 244 = 18300 <-- -Cheapest- airfare from where I am for a round-trip
                     flight for that window.

19500 + 32700 + 18300 = 70500 <-- Grand total expenditure for all involved
if they sell out the conference.

That's what you get for a -speculative- benefit. This includes the
announcement of one product of unknown merit, and an otherwise unannounced
and/or unknown agenda, to date. You are essentially flying down and
staying for a -fact-finding- mission to see if the ROI will -potentially-
be there, and that is -before- you pay one cent in license fees.

If people have -that- much money to burn on spec, I'll tell you what...
I'll make the community a deal.

If one or more of you gives me $70.5k by 00:00:00 EDT on 9/78/2019, I will
release -all- of my -current- standalone, for-resale software offerings as
perpetual open-source freeware, and -permanently- remove the cost barrier
to entry for those products for -everyone-.

This offer includes OneGate, OneBridge, RawQuery, LightMail...everything
that's been in the SuperPack and UltraPack packages, -plus- the unreleased
version of SuperQuery (a souped-up REST/SOAP-capable version of RawQuery
which I've never gotten the marketing done for, due to time constraints),
all for one low price. That's essentially a wordwide site license from
which everyone benefits. I'll even allow forking and custom versions.

If one or more of you (individually, as a group, one company, several
companies...I don't really care as long as the minimum is met), pay me at
least that $70.5K USD amount, by the deadline, nobody in this community
(nor anyone else) will ever have to pay a further license fee for any of
those products. They will become freely usable by anyone.

Support concerns? I'll continue do paid support as I have all along, at my
normal posted hourly rates for -my- versions of the programs. The support
requirements for my software are so low that I'm not even concerned about
time constraints.

That is a -guaranteed- ROI which benefits the entire community, based on a
feature set which is a known quantity, suite-wide. All products have been
deployed commercially, and they've got years of proven track record and
performance standing behind them.

Honestly, I think that's a more concrete benefit than a conference where
you merely get a peek at something you still have to buy.

Bests,

> Not a big item but Breakfast and Lunch are included in the registration fee.
>
> You could consider carpooling with anyone who will be attending from your area. That would keep your costs down.
>
> On the other hand, you missed the fact that the conference is over a weekend in Orlando - "Mickey Mouse" country. As in the past, some developers will come with their families as the hotel costs are a lot lower and in some cases their expenses are covered by their employer.
>
> When I attend these conferences, the costs come out of my pocket. I pay for me and my wife. I do have enough points on Southwest to book my flight using these points.
>
> I would like to point out that I am using the subscription option as I get a head start on new functionality and can see how I can use them in my applications. Currently I have 5 or 6 different applications I can upgrade with the new functionality. Fp Web will just be another possible upgrade. I already mentioned this to one client and he is interested. This will require me to see what the functionality is and what it will cost to implement it.
