I tested just using the actual field name of one of the file to have records deleted.
Fn(3,.0)="3"
Lookup vaw_names r-rn -n
FName=filedname(VAW_Names,fn)
Bruce Easton suggested that using the alias should work. Tried that again and the program passed the syntax check. Will have to run this with the debugger to test it further. As the file structure for all of the files in question is the almost the same, if field 3 is not the last name, then the balance of the processing at this point can be skipped. There is only one file which should have field 3 as the last name field.
