You gents may be on the right track

$TZ shows up as ESTEDT. 

/etc/TIMEZONE doesn't appear to do anything

I google'd SCO Timezones and found where in 
scoadmin/system/change timezone to make a change.

But there's no real way to do iy unless you make up your own TZ.

It's already set to eastern standard time and daylight savings time
is set to yes.

Unless someone can come up with a better idea, I think I'll just change it
to CST and be done with it.
