The catalog reminds me of a time when a client was running an
auction where they had thousands of lots each day over several
days, and needed to print a catalog for each day's lots.  They
were running my auction software (Unify RDBMS with much C code),
on an Altos box running Xenix.  I put together a script that used
xroff to print camera ready multi-column text for the printer.
Today that same script could be used to create PDF files for
email very easily as it uses groff.
