keyboard not responding - update

What you probably had a locked record, not a locked file. Definitely not be confused with filePro's lockfile which keeps track of what major function is running on the database.

Walter,
It appears that everyone was precluded from using their keyboard in the one file. The other files were not affected.
So it does appear to have been a lock file which I will watch out for in the future. In all the years we have used filepro this has never happened. I have removed lock files when reports could not be completed, but this is new to us.
Thanks for your explanation.
Dennis

Did it really not allow any sort of input to dclerk without any processing tables when you were connected to that specific database from any terminal?
Or was the application frozen for everyone regardless of the terminal.
If it was the latter, it's perfectly within the realm of possibility that the 'application table' obtains a lock on another database counter field in order to proceed. However it for some reason that counter field is held locked for exclusive access (someone in dclerk in update mode on that record), that kind of thing can happen. And I have had it happen that the only way to fix things was a reboot. However since you told everyone to log off and get out of the system, whomever was the culprit closed the offending access.

Update: we had everyone exit before we were going to shut down the system and restart. Before shut down we went back in and the keyboard was then responsive in the problem file. Everyone is back in and we are fine so far.
Any thoughts on how to prevent this occurrence in the future?

We are on 5.0.14D4.
Weird!! Our main file just stopped accepting keyboard input, but all the other files have no problem.
Has anyone had this problem? We are on AIX Unix platform and have never experienced this.
Any help would be appreciated.
