Sounds like the circuitboard took a while to thoroughly dry out.
Honestly, if something like that happened to my gear, and it was acting
inconsistently, I'd just write it off and pitch it. The last thing anyone
needs is to be dialing 911 and have the phone decide to act flakier than a
croissant in Paris.
Phones and water do not mix. Phones and impact do not mix. My phones get
milspec cases. Otterbox Defender is the line I currently trust. Adds a
-little- bulk, but you can drop this thing from about twelve storeys, and
unless the screen side hits the corner of a cinderblock brick, you're still
going to have a usable phone. BodyGlove used to make another good milspec
case, but they decided not to for the Galaxy 7, so I moved to OtterBox.
Milspec or bust. Won't help with submersion in water, though. Newer
phones like the Galaxy 8 are supposed to be more water resistant, but it'd
be a cold day in hell before I'd get it near more than rain, which is
conveniently stopped by the milspec case.
I am -very- picky about my electronics and how I treat them, though.
Essentially, treat them as you would take care of a baby, and you won't
have problems. I find it appalling how people treat their gear when I go
out and see some outrageous things.

> About a year ago my IPhone 5s took a swim and drowned. No rice handy and would not boot or take a charge.
>
> As this was also my business phone, I replaced it. It had been backed up the evening before.
>
> This past Saturday, on a whim, I plugged in the phone and the charging battery symbol appeared. After a few hours, pressed the start button and low and behold, it booted up as if nothing had happened.
>
> I have no idea why but the issue is what do I do with this phone?
>
> At the time I replaced my phone, we replaced my wife's Nokia flip phone with another flip phone. Her employer supplied her with a corporate IPhone 5s to replace the Blackberry that she had been using.
>
> My carrier has advised erasing everything to restore to the factory default. Then when she is ready, bring in both phones and they will activate the IPhone and de-activate her flip phone.
