I don't know if this still applies, but years ago, there was a way in Kaspersky Anti-virus to "turn off" virus scanning on certain executable files. As I recall, Kaspersly was scanning every one of the filePro files (executables, indexes, etcetera) that were being run off of the Windows Server. This was causing slow-downs opening filepro files to the point that things were timing out. Again, this was with much older hardware and 10 Mbps networks, but it still may apply.
