create directory/ change directory

Hi I am having a problem trying to create a directory then change to created directory and then create a new directory.

cd Q:\Datamkdir directory1
cd directory1mkdir directory2
what is happening is directory1 is created in fp directory on drive Q and nowhere is directory2 to be found
I am using system commands to perform above commands with no success.
Any help will be most appreciated.
