Speaking of storm horror stories, I think my favourite is still one of
my clients' customers. The customer had two buildings with a parking
lot between them. They ran coax for Sun River cards between the two.
Unfortunately, they ran it through PVC piping. Now...I suppose even I'd
have been mistaken, because you'd think that if there's no metal pipe, it
won't draw lightning, right?
Yeah...notsomuch. The coax itself takes over that job when left to fend
for itself, and there's no actual metal pipe to ground it. I think they
had two strikes within five years or something, and a fairly expensive
repair/replacement bill before digging it up and putting in the proper
piping.
