Importing/exporting data with carriage returns (I Think)

Why not just translate the \r to \001 before import, and then whenever
outputting or otherwise referencing the data on the way out, translate
\001 to \r?
This is seeming like one of the easier options from what I've been
seeing but it brings up other questions.
Lets say that I was able to translate all of the \r to \001 or whatever,
I wonder what the memo field is going to do with that. Plus if any of
the imported data is edited in filepro, I'm sure it'll be getting \r
added to it somewhere along with the one it's sure to get at the end of
whatever was imported.
Exporting is looking like a difficult process regardless of even getting
the data into the memo field. I need the carriage returns to be included
in the exported data but filepro export is probable going to stop the
export as soon as it sees the first one.
