Assuming that's supposed to be 5.8.08.xx, since the other way doesn't make much
sense?

Really?

<impersonation target="Fairlight">
I was hoping I wouldn't have to explain the "you sell a tool; we don't work for you,
you work for us" thing *again*.

I have done tech support from both sides of the phone for 30 years, and yes, I understand
that that approach makes *your* job easier. But I don't select tools to make the
vendor's job easier, I select them to make *my* job easier. If I have an end user
running my code, and a problem pops up, they're not going to pay my labor to
update their install, just so I can get support on it. And that's not even speaking
about what other things the upgrade might break. I don't do gratuitous upgrades.

It's simply a non-starter.

There's a strict limit to the amount of pain you can inflict on people just because they
are hundreds of thousands of lines of code into your legacy tool, before it's a better
business proposition for them to just jump. Is this it? Who knows.

"Why?"

I'm just at the decision point in my life right now as to whether I jump back
in the Filepro lake on a project with one of my longtime general contractors.
I come back over to the list to query about using revision control with fP,
and I find *that* delightful little bit.

I am not a salmon; I decline to volunteer to swim upstream just to get my
work done. Especially with something with so much leverage as a basic
programming toolset.

Cheers,
