AnzioWin's Print Wizard feature (and also freestanding Print Wizard) is
very good at maintaining device independence when either rendering on PDF
or rendering on any Windows-supported printer. This can take two forms:
1. Print Wizard receives PCL-5 code. PW parses and translates these codes
itself. We've tested with hundreds of PCL-5 printfiles over the years,
including many coming from filePro. If there are differences in output
between PW and an actual HP printer, it almost certainly comes down to
uninitialized variables, which jobs depend on printer front-panel settings
being set a certain way. PW has similar settings, though they are "back
door" settings.
2. Print Wizard receives Print Wizard Markup Language (PWML), either coded
directly or translated from printcodes via our provided printcode table.
If you're currently outputting to a non-PCL printer, using fP's printcode
tables, you can change tables (PRT files) in order to produce either PCL-5
or PWML. If the code numbers are logically consistent, as we hope, they
should come out as good.
(PW also has internal translation of Epson and IBM codes, as provided in
Okidata printers, but these are recent recent arrivals and not "extremely
vetted".)
If any kind of translation does not work, we will assist you in making it
work.
