I wasn't even addressing Jose, originally. I was addressing Bill with what
I felt was a perfectly valid point (or set of points, depending how you
parse it) on how I feel fP Tech is shooting themselves in the foot.

Jose decided it was a good idea to take a shot at me when he wasn't
directly engaged. I'm not going to just let that ride, no. If someone's
going to take a shot at me in public, they're going to take their lumps in
the same forum. I would expect (and have endured) no less for myself when
I'm on the wrong side of an issue, or am just plain wrong.

It's a matter of principle. If you attack someone publicly, they're
allowed a public rebuttal. I can't help it if he keeps doubling down.

The only saving grace is that he reached the point where the claims
were -so- outlandish (I've never been, am not, and never will be a web
developer? Really? Only since 1994 on a CERN HTTP server...) that I no
longer felt they deserved to be dignified with a response. But when it
was still halfway reasonable, yes, I have every expectation of being able
to defend myself publicly. I really don't care what most think of my
personality, but if someone wants to attack my -skillset-, they better fact
check themselves, because that's potentially impacting me professionally.
You better believe I'll speak up under that line of fire.

If he didn't like the results, he shouldn't have started in. While I
regret the collateral damage in that everyone has to put up with the
exchange, I view it as being placed squarely on his tab, as I maintain that
I have the right to self-defence in a public venue. I didn't particularly
enjoy having to defend myself, FWIW, but so be it.

I'm perfectly capable of maintaining a peaceful detente, as long as the
other party will adhere to it.
