Tips and Tricks: Mass Update

Fellow Filepro Users,

I am posting an often forgotten or little known feature of filepro: Mass 
Update

This feature requires only one critical item: an automatic index that is 
built to sort the data and make update easier.  It can be an automatic 
or demand index so it could also select just part of your data.  For 
example you want to change all the prices for only one category of 
inventory.  Or you want to enter inventory received for one PO and you 
need to go down all the items on that PO number.  I like it best for 
inventory, but you will find one hundred and one uses for this trick.

Go to Inquire Update and Add.  Select the screen that has the data you 
want to update quickly, then select the index you want to use to access 
the data.

Move to the first record you want to update in the index, using the key 
or just enter to start at the first index entry.

Press F4.  This will put you in update mode - make your corrections - 
Press ESC (Save) and you will automatically be in update mode on the 
next record in the index.  Fix that record and ESC and you are in update 
mode on the next record in the index.

This saves the keystrokes - move to the next record and hit U to update.

Documentation for this feature is hard to find and it has been part of 
filePro forever.
