Hello filePro users January 2016

We are pleased to announce that 5.8.01 has been released. This is an interim release to 5.8.00 for those who are participating in the Update Subscription Program (USP). We have had many more customers join the program after its launch for the 5.7 release. Contact sales at 800-847-4740 or sales at fptech.com for more information on how to join the USP.

New features in 5.8.01 are:

Dual Write/Mirror - this will write a specified filePro database
file out to another separate location controlled by PFDIR2 and
PFDATA2 set in your configuration. An example would be having a
customer file in C:\appl\filepro written out to W:\fpmirror\filepro
     concurrently.

Automatic Index Selection Set - dxmaint now allows for an attached
selection set to a specific index. All filePro programs will honor
this selection set when adding, deleting, or modifying records to
determine if the record belongs in an index. This is similar to a
demand index selection set except it now applies to an automatic
index. An example would be having an index.A built on the zipcode
but the selection set filters it for only state equal to "Texas"

PFPQ=ON - Acts as if the "-PQ" flag was passed to *clerk/*report.

Remember that those customers who are under USP Contracts receive free email support and a discounted incident and custom programming rate of $80 per hour. Those who purchase upgrades receive free installation and setup support for 30 days. All other incidents are handled at our normal rate of $125 per hour with a minimum of one hour. Contact sales if you have any questions or needs.
--------------

We have also released a NEW non-record locking single session Development 5.8.00 version. You will need to be cautious as data corruption can occur if used in conjunction with a multi-user version of Development or Run-time. This single session version will retail for $295.00 and is intended for minor or remote maintenance on systems or as a entry level startup; therefore, TCP/IP socket and other add-ons will not be offered with this system.. The price of the record locking version has been reduced from $555.00 to $395.00 (a savings of $160.00) Please note that the multi-user Full Run-time only price has been changed to $145.00 per session.

Along with this new release, we have also released a revision update to 5.8.00 with several bug fixes. Here are some of the bug fixes that are in the 5.8.XX.01 revision update.

(All) # 1332

Aspell ws replaced with hunspell for the 64 bit version of
    filePro

(Linux) #1330

The 64-bit Linux version of xfer didn't copy screens correctly.

(Linux) #1327

On 64-bit Linux. closing a lookup file could crash with a corrupt heap.
("*** glibc detected ***" error message.)

(Linux) #1316

Fuzzy browse lookups could crash on 64 bit Linux

(All) #1286

Setting PFIDLEN=32 will cause @ID, @CB, and @UB to have a length of
32 rather than 8. (The only legal values are currently "8" and "32".
    Any other value is undefined.)

(All) #1295

Alien and ODBC files can't be encrypted by filePro. ddefine will
now prevent you from marking such files as encrypted.

(All) #1302

filePro now defaults to PFMAXALLOC=128 and PFMAXASIZE=128000, for
up to 16MB of RAM for sorting.

(All) #1304

If you have a fatal error (such as "file not found" on import) in
a CALLed table, filePro might crash upon exit.

(All) #1305

If you print a form from *clerk via "F"orn (not from FORM within
processing), and that form's output processing does a lookup to
the same file as an open lookup in input/auto processing, and
then CLOSEs that lookup, filePro can crash if the input/auto
    processing re-executes that lookup.

(All) #1314

The FPML documentation was incorrect. The "<PAGE>" tag is
documented as taking an "ORIENTATION" attribute, but it should
have said "ORIENT". filePro will now allow either spelling.

(Windows 10) #1318

On Windows 10, if you set filePro's TextNormal attribute to a
value from 0x80-0xff, there could be "ghost" characters left
    on the screen.

(Windows, 64-bit) #1321

The 64-bit Windows version of rclerk/rreport could crash when
    using OPENDIR().

(All) #1322

If you have a very long filename that "looks like" a qualified
filename (such as "key [conflict at 2014-12-09_23-28-27]"),
    filePro could crash.

Don't forget that all filePro versions prior to 5.7 are no longer sold or supported. You can review the new features of 5.7 and 5.8 at:
