The @MENU event will trigger just before *clerk displays the main *clerk menu ("1 - record number, 2 - select records, etc."). However, there isn't any event before the list of indexes is shown.
You could, of course, replace the *clerk menu with your own, via @MENU, and then run some processing before handing off the "4 - index selection" choice back to *clerk.
