For what it's worth...
You could turn your SCO OS6 box into a "local cache only" DNS server if it's
not already.
While you must keep an external DNS Primary and Secondary entry in
resolv.conf, it
has been my experience that this practice, on OSR6, will improve local
resolution without
any overhead issues. You could then configure your local network to use the
SCO box
as a secondary server.
