I've had this issue once in awhile and tested it with two open SSH
connections to two entirely different hosts with identical PuTTY settings.
One connection would hold for a couple of hours, the second connection would
drop after 15 minutes or so. The keep-alive setting turned out to be
useless. Bill C. had a great idea with running "top" to keep a stream
running, and I had also tried that, but eventually either the server or your
ISP will drop you. This seems to be something that developed during the last
five years or so. I used Mutt for years and used to be able to leave it on
all day. Not so anymore.
