Memo Fields and Export Issues

All,
Ok, I just tried some other stuff like ml=len(212) and got back 16. I know the field definition for 212 is 16,memo. So, if the field contains a string that is 600 characters long, shouldn't len(212) return 600 and not 16? It does in all the other languages I use...
Now, if len() should return 16, then how do I get the number of chars that the memo vontains, so I can retrieve them all minus 1, the lsat cr character?
Thanks, Stanley

Stanley,
That will trim leading and trailing spaces but not any other, even "non-printable", characters as they may be non-printable but they are not a space.
You will need xlate or similar to remove any other extraneous characters not required.
