Would be more useful in a world of "The internet of everything" that as you
crossed the threshold, it would know to automatically lift or drop the lid
before you arrived at the destination.
I do wish the guy on John Stewart the other day would have been able to
demonstrate the pill bottle that spoke to you when it was time for you to
take your pills. From my experience with dealing with the aged, it was not
forgetting to take pills, but them thinking they had not taken them.
Later-rinse-repeat. A pill bottle that does not open and says, "you don't
need to take this again until breakfast tomorrow" probably would save more
lives (or rather keep people from an early one way visit to the funeral
home).
