Mark,

Thanks for link. This is an interesting article.

For my part, I save toner/ink by creating PDF's of my outputs from filePro. This avoids actually having to print the reports as I test or develop a new report or output.

On the flip side of this, most manuals or instructions no longer come printed, they are on a disk in the form of a pdf. Since I am old school, I end up printing these out (2 sided and in color) then put them in a binder.

My pet peeve is when installation instructions for a video card or cd/DVD drive are on a disk or worse where a NIC says check their web-site for installation instructions.

I just purchased a new Epson R2000 photo printer which comes with both written installation instructions, a basic user manual and once the software is installed, it connects to a more complete user manual on their web-site.

I had read about people having difficulty installing this printer and did run into a little problem that was easily solved by reading the basic manual. The instructions were to install the 8 ink cartridges and wait for them to prime. I did this and waited a few minutes and then realized that nothing was happening as there were no sounds coming from the printer. When I checked the manual for replacing ink cartridges, it said to press the ink button to prime the cartridge. I did this and could hear the sound of the ink being primed. After a few minutes the orange light above the button went off. The installation instruction left this one little piece of information off, press the button after installing the cartridges. Maybe they were trying to save money on ink by leaving this instruction off. :)
