OT: suggested Linus distro for the in-laws

I used to be a SuSE guy, it with KDE3 was the closest to Windows XP you could
get.

But the Release Configuration Managers at SuSE have had a brain tumor, and
I can't even recommend it for business use anymore.  I'm about to redo my
laptop, and I'm strongly considering Linux Mint, which has good reviews;
I liked a version of it I used about 5 years ago, but I haven't yet installed 
it.

Uses its own package management system, so you will need to make sure it has
builds for anything they want.
