It is not only Linkedin but the worst offender is Facebook.  One of my friends in our community started to get Facebook updates from my daughter who he doesn't know.  When he joined Facebook, he gave them permission to use his contract list.  He had my personnel email address.  Facebook most likely compared his contact list to other Facebook members and found my address in my daughter's contact list.  Bingo, a connection.  It is interesting as I am not on Facebook and was getting updates in my daughter's life from my friend who doesn't know her.
