Dimming Arrays

Can someone refresh my memory:

 

Do arrays need to be dimmed physically at the top of a table  or can you put
the dims in a subroutine  that gets hit before any lines of code are
executed that refer to them.

 

Or does it not matter where they are dimmed?

 

This is in the category of something I used to know but have forgotten.
