Virus checkers

I stopped using McAfee years ago and Symantec/Norton not too long 
afterwards.  The primary reason was the huge footprint/overhead but more 
so because of the near incomprehensible proliferation of programs to do 
a simple task of providing antivirus protection.  They became so complex 
and so secretive to become unmanageable.  Debugging by stopping the 
programs became impossible to do because up to 10 separate programs 
would load with no way to stop them other than uninstalling them.

I removed McAfee and Norton from all client's systems and installed 
Microsoft Security Essentials.  One of the first few machines I 
installed MSSE on found a virus all the others missed. I figure that 
Microsoft knows all the "hooks" in their systems to have more effective 
virus protection.

Summary: I use Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Antimalware with 
great success.
