Hello, everyone.

This is off the subject of mainstream filePro, although filePro users/partners/developers are perfect candidates. If you have no interest in virtualization and specifically cloud virtualization, this is a good time to stop reading this email. If you want to learn more about it, please read on.
------

Still here? Ok. Many of you know me for BackupEDGE, our backup / bare metal disaster recovery product for Unix and Linux. It's been around since 1986 in previous forms, and since 1993 under its current name, and we've been able to keep it wonderfully up-to-date as storage trends have changed. We will celebrate our 30th anniversary here at Microlite later this year.

Some of you here know that, for the last two years, I've also been very involved in a cloud computing start-up, so I thought I'd update the rest of you. We went through a 6-month test period and have now been live for over a year and a half, with 100% up-time.

When we began, we were looking for a way to solve the problems of legacy Unix users who have felt orphaned with the reduced availability of Unix operating systems on modern hardware or have gotten tired of the un-ending hardware / support maintenance cycle.

In solving those problems, we're also solving problems for Linux and Windows (and even Solaris) clients.

Our company has developed a highly redundant virtualization infrastructure (based on VMware's top-tier "vCloud" environment).

The SCO Cloud Mission
---------------------
Provide end-users and partners the ability to:
• Migrate their physical servers to virtual servers with more up time, security and redundancy than they could otherwise typically afford.
• Free them from the continuing struggle to find, deploy, maintain and replace physical hardware that supports their operating environment and applications.
• Provide disaster recovery (DR) site capabilities.
• Enable lightning-fast deployment of new servers based on pre-configured "Templates".
• Eliminate initial investment fears for new deployments.
• Provide a secure development / demonstration environment.
• Let managers and/or partners maintain complete control of their servers.
• Allowing instant CPU and memory upgrades as they grow, or just in emergencies.

The SCO Cloud Advantage
-----------------------
Providing the best possible cloud hosting environment:
• Hosted only in SAS 70 Type II (or higher) certified data centers.
• *** 100% uptime SLA ***
• Best of breed hardware / software infrastructure.
o Latest design servers / SANs, switches, NASes and Firewalls – all redundant.
o No single point of failure.
   o VMware vCloud-enabled.
• Three ways to access any virtual guest:
o Easy to use web management interface, including console / power switch access though a web browser.
o Managed firewall with port control.
o Single or multi-site VPN puts the server directly on the local network.
o Two-Factor Authentication required for extra security on all management functions.
• Two weeks of backups included with every Virtual Machine (VM).
• Replication 4 times per day to an alternate data center.
• Unparalleled support. Free for SCO Cloud issues, low rates for other issues.
• Inexpensive (~$50/month) virtual server licenses for SCO / UnXis, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Microsoft products.
• Faster, more agile and easier to manage than products like Amazon EC2. Get all of your client’s Windows, Linux, SCO / UnXis, and Solaris (Intel) servers running directly on a blazing fast network with just a VPN back to the office.

Cloud Computing Benefits
------------------------
• No startup or initial investment costs.
• Access from anywhere with an internet connection.
• Power, cooling and space savings, as well as noise reduction, at the client premises.
• Never again have to place a server in a dusty or dirty environment.
• Superior bandwidth, performance and scalability.
• If you currently run virtualization in-house, we can:
o Transfer your virtual machines to our environment to get you doing cloud computing quickly.
o Maintain a synced copy of your running virtual machine in our cloud. If you have a disaster we can simply bring the backup virtual machine on-line, open a VPN connection and get you running again.

If you are tired of maintaining servers and just want to get your job done (or maintain your software product better), please call me or email me at my SCO Cloud phone number or email address as listed below.
I'll be happy to provide additional information and / or a live demonstration of our environment.

We are actively seeking reseller partners and do our best to refer leads to them, but if you are an abandoned end-user we'll be happy to bring you in from the cold, reduce your worries, and increase your compute performance.

Kindest Regards,
Tom Podnar
